First, have your dog standing square on a non-slip surface. Lift up one forelimb by curling the toes under and hold this leg flexed under the body, encouraging your dog not to put any weight through the limb and your hand during the exercise. It is sometimes helpful to wiggle the toes to discourage weight-bearing as they acclimatise to your support through their leg.
Your dog may only be able to handle this for a split second initially. Be sure to place the limb back down in a slow and controlled fashion.
The aim is to increase duration – please always follow specific instructions provided to you by your therapist.
