The hip flexors are muscles that allow your dog to move his legs and hips while walking, trotting or running. Firstly, get your dog to stand nice and square. Once in this position block the hindlimbs with one arm by putting the arm straight out in front of the hindlimbs. Then gently and slowly with your other hand move a treat forwards in front of the dogs nose to lure them forwards. If they try and step over the legs, bring the treat slightly backwards to reduce the stretch. We want to hold the stretch for 10 seconds so ensure it is a position they can hold for this amount of time.

Benefits your dog will receive from this stretch include increased movement and flexibility in the hips and spine, improved conditioning of the lower back, hip and leg muscles, and a reduction in arthritis-related discomfort and pain.
