A period of rest is the first stage in the rehabilitation of tendon inflammation. The period of rest can be anywhere between 1 & 3 weeks depending on the clinical signs of discomfort. Your therapist will advise when your dog has moved on to the next stage.
Rest should include:
- Prevention of any high impact movements: running up/down stairs, jumping up on furniture, into & out of cars, running off lead.
- Some people prefer to cage pets when unsupervised, or to make a small penned area to prevent unregulated exercise.
- Regular low-impact movement is essential: 4 x 10 minute on lead walks on soft ground is ideal.
