Placement of NMES electrodes as demonstrated (your therapist can shave this area for you so it is easier to see) , for set time on therapist recommended programme. Ensure the contractions are noticeable but not uncomfortable.

DO toggle the power very very slow, to prevent alarm in your dog. Toggle the power until you see visible contractions of the quadricep muscle. Beware, the NMES has a cycle and will contract and release and allow a rest. Avoid toggling during this rest period.

  1. To gain better conduction ensure there is ample conductive gel.
  2. Place the electrodes in the quadricep lateral muscle group area – use photo below for guidance.
  3. Once your dog is comfortable and relaxed, you can turn on your NMES machine – you should not need to change any settings, but toggle the power.
  4. Once at appropriate power output, you can place the NMES in a safe place and place your hand under the paw like pictured below to promote muscle activation associated to gait and posture.
