Ensure to perform this on a non-slip surface.
This exercise is designed to assist dogs into the correct form of down when they are unable to perform on a flat surface due to soft tissue or joint restriction that inhibits full flexion. It also encourages increased weight bearing through the hindlimbs when coming back into a stand.
Lure your dog to stand with their front feet on the platform – this will be described by your therapist to provide the correct height. You may find it easier to achieve correctly if you have hold of your dog via a harness or collar to prevent them from stepping backward off the platform when going into a down.
In the video we have made a visual and physical cue to encourage the limbs to stay straight and tucked under the body when going into a down. Your therapist will advise the correct set up for your dog.
Please only perform as specifically told and shown by your therapist to ensure efficacy and prevent injury.
