This exercise should be performed on a non-slip surface.

To perform the Posture Sit, the dog should sit with its hip, stifle (knee), tarsus (hock/ankle), and hindlimb digits in the same, forward facing direction. The forelimbs should be half a stride length in front of the hindlimb digits. The forelimb paws should be directly under the shoulder and should remain on the ground throughout the exercise. The shoulder, elbow, carpus (wrist), and forelimb digits should be aligned in the same straight forward facing plane as the hindlimbs. To achieve the Posture Sit position, the dog extends its spine and rolls its pelvis forward to form a straight line from the nose to the base of the tail (see photo). During the movement, the dog’s stifles should move above or just forward of the hindlimb digits.

“Posture sit” aims to create your dogs sit with their spine in natural alignment. Quite often dogs sit and slump with varied spinal postures creating pressure points that become painful, or increase to a pathology. Posture sit aims to create a sit with your dog’s spine straight, therefore performing a correct sit requires your dog to have their hind limbs square, and tucked in. The forelimbs horizontal to the ground. The spine must be straight, to do so you can use a treat lure to stretch your dog forward to improve the spinal alignment. Reward and release.
