Ensure you use non-slip surfaces to enable your dog to perform this safely. Using seperate foot targets for the front and back paws helps your dog to perform this successfully. Make this harder now by using unstable surfaces for either forelimbs, hindlimbs, or both (be sure to follow therapist instructions). Lure a treat down in front of your dog’s front paws. Sometimes a hand on their forearms helps them to understand what is being asked. We are looking for elbow flexion, a pause, before returning to neutral. Ensure you reward and praise your dog as soon as they get it right so they understand what is being asked of them.
