Once your dog has mastered the “push up” from a sit, it is now time to teach them to slowly, in a controlled manner, come back down into a sit.

Again this is best performed by starting in the corner of a wall, or by supporting the back of the pelvis with your hand.

Always perform on a non-slip surface and notice your dogs signs of fatigue – if they collapse back down or move in a disorderly way, abandon performing the exercise and begin again another day. It is also advised to perform in a harness with a handle so that your dog can be supported whilst they learn what is being asked of them.
Be sure that your dog performs this in a slow and controlled manner, only rewarding correct movement. As soon as your dog begins to show signs of fatigue, the exercise should be ended. This can be in the form of snatching at treats, losing good form or offering alternative movements.
