Assessment : Reduced WB of RH. Tail now held to the right. Crabbing during locomotion and reduced stance duration during the hydrotherapy. Intermittent skipping wiht the RH still. Treatment Plan : Looking to discharge George after a 2 weekly check up, with a view that he can always return should he need to in the future. Explained the likelihood of recurrence due to George’s breed and behaviours, but also advised on lifestyle adaptations to help prevent: 1) Cut food down to significantly reduce weight – most important factor 2) Remove jumping down/ climbing downstairs/ fast declines from lifestyle where possible 3) Warm up the knees prior to exercise and in the mornings – sit to stand 10 repetitions for some kibble. Harness Size : Small Pre Showering Techniques : Hindlimb Sweep, Primary joint compression Water Height : 7″ x 6 Speed: : 2 Duration: : 45s Repetitions: : 6 Rest Duration: : 2m Rest Period Interventions: : None – therapist stays out of UWTM due to his aggression. Movement Shaping Techniques : Use of 2 pool noodles to perform horizontal alignment technique which hugely improved HL activation and reduction of excessive thoracolumbar sway. |

Observations : George has visibly lost weight and is looking much better – currently 7.9kg. He is doing 10-15 minute walks now all on lead. The owners have just started giving him Nutri-calm calming tablets which seemed to have made a slight difference in his behaviour, but he has only been on them a few days so they are hoping they will continue calming him down. Assessment : Reduced WB of RH. Tail now held to the right. Crabbing during locomotion and reduced stance duration during the hydrotherapy. Treatment Plan : To see George bi-weekly to manage the condition, with the hopes to reduce frequency in the future. Harness Size : Small Pre Showering Techniques : Hindlimb Sweep, Primary joint compression Water Height : 7″ x 5, 6″ x 2, 5″ x 1 (struggled with the lower water height so only did 1) Speed: : 2 Duration: : 45s Repetitions: : 8 Rest Duration: : 2m Rest Period Interventions: : None – therapist stays out of UWTM due to his aggression. |

Observations : George was doing very well, but then the daughter forgot to shut him in the crate when the window cleaners arrived so George got frantic and was repeatedly jumpng up and down at the window. After this he was limping and has been ever since, so we suspect he has reinjured the CCL. Due to George’s temperament it is unlikely he would be calm after surgery, so we are not sure this is an option. Owners are happy to have long term management, particularly as he showed improvements prior to this incident. Assessment : Reduced WB of RH. Tail now held to the right.
